A Natural Lagoon Emerges During Earthwork

Excavation on the northern acreage uncovered a natural lagoon area — and reshaped the plan around it.

Some of the best things about a property are the ones you did not plan.

What physically exists today: during earthwork on the northern acreage — the land acquired after the original tract — excavation opened up a natural lagoon area. The excavation, the exposed natural rock, and the discovered water area are real and on the ground right now. They are part of an active construction site: there is no finished amenity there, and the area is not open or accessible to guests.

What is planned and not yet built: everything that would turn that water area into somewhere you can spend a day. The current concept is an approximately one-acre recreation lagoon around 20 feet deep, with lining and water-management work intended to keep it clean and clear. Around and within it we are planning a sandy beach, a shallow child-friendly swimming area, the natural-rock setting kept as a feature for climbing and cliff diving, and water volleyball and basketball. A pavilion and deck are planned to look out over it, with sand beach volleyball alongside. Lighting, security systems, and a lifeguard operation are part of the plan. None of those are built, open, or available to guests.

Separately, two clear-view ponds are planned elsewhere on the property. They are not the lagoon, and the lagoon is not them.

What is not settled: depths, dimensions, the finished edge treatment, and the recreation layout are all still being designed, and they will change.

We will keep sharing this one as it develops. It is the part of the property we did not expect, and it may end up being the part people remember.
